Following the death of his grandfather, poet Ross Sutherland discovered an old videotape in his loft. On the tape were all the things they'd watched together: one-and-a-half films, a quiz show, a pop video, adverts and two sitcoms. The tape is a scrapbook, and when overlaid with spoken-word ponderings, the fragments become a personal history tackling life’s big questions, as well as a meditation on the media's influence and inheritance.
Ross Sutherland (Edinburgh, 1979) has four collections of poetry and is a member of the poetry collective Aisle16. He has written several pieces for the stage, including The Three Stigmata of Pacman and the interactive show Comedian Dies in the Middle of a Joke. Stand By for Tape Back-Up is his first feature.
