Workingman's Death
Michael Glawogger
L'Alternativa Parallel / Michael Glawogger / Workingman's Death
Synopsis
Workingman's Death, the second film in Michael Glawogger’s trilogy, watches people working at difficult jobs in dangerous places, from illegal Ukrainian mines to Indonesian volcanoes, Nigerian slaughter yards and Chinese steel works. Meanwhile, the future is now in Germany, where a former smelting plant has been turned into a bright and shiny leisure park. The use of long takes, virtuoso camerawork, ravishing cinematography and a striking John Zorn score all serve to monumentalise the labour depicted on screen.
