De los nombres de las cabras

Synopsis

Picking his way through colonial myths, an archaeologist explores the last remaining cave dwellings on the Canary Islands and questions old shepherds in search of the remains of the ancient aborigines who once lived on the islands. Archaeological research gradually reveals the complex map of power that runs through historical discourse. Created entirely out of archive film and pictures, De los nombres de las cabras celebrates archive footage as a tool for analysing the present.

Bio/Filmo

Silvia Navarro Martín is a sociologist and visual artist who worked as a researcher with Helena Girón and Samuel M. Delgado on the shorts Sin Dios ni Santa María (2015), Montañas ardientes que vomitan fuego (2016) and Plus Ultra (2017), all screened at l'Alternativa.
Miguel G. Morales is an independent filmmaker whose work explores the outlying areas of nonfiction and draws heavily on documentary, research and essay work. His recent films, all of which have made use of his own or others' film archives, include Ángel caído (2018), Hombre que hace que duerme (2015) and Retina (2014). In 2019 he helped José Luis Guerin direct De una isla (2019).
Together, Navarro and Morales codirected the shorts Juana (2016) and Esclavos sin ser esclavos (2016).
