Synopsis

Our economic system has made itself invisible and does its utmost to evade scrutiny. In recent years, though, there has been a growing sense that something is going wrong. Oeconomia takes us on a creative and humorous journey into the heart of a world of glass and concrete, where economists, bankers and CEOs try to explain the capitalist game to varying degrees of success. As it peels back the layers to reveal how the rules of contemporary capitalism systematically precondition growth, deficit and wealth, it lays bare the paradox that profits are only possible when we are in debt. An enquiry into a hidden world, where many questions are asked but few are answered.

Bio/Filmo

Carmen Losmann (Crailsheim, 1978) studied film at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Her debut film, Work Hard, Play Hard (2011), won numerous awards, including the prestigious Grimme Prize. Oeconomia received support from the Gerd Ruge Grant.
